COMMON-LAW COUPLES
A Common Law relationship is defined by the length of time the couple has lived together, if there are children from the relationship and if it is a relationship of some permanence. The Income Tax Act and the Family Law Act identify a Common Law couple differently. Common Law couples’ right to property and asset divisions are determined differently than those of a married couple.
The Prouse Dash & Crouch, LLP Family Law Team is qualified to assist in determining and accessing your rights as a common law spouse in the areas of property division, child related issues and support:
- Custody, Access, Child Support, Contribution to Childcare and other child related expenses (For further information regarding Child Support Guidelines visit the Federal Website)
- Property Division
- Spousal Support
- Variation of Support Orders PDC can help you determine whether your existing order can be varied or if it is in your best interests to have your order varied.
